Veneers are essentially a small covering (or shell) bonded to the front of any cracked, chipped or damaged part of your tooth. There are different types of veneer, porcelain, ceramic and composite resin are used, however, porcelain veneers are the most common. When you visit Spa Dental Kellyville we use these to help restore your smile to its previous pristine condition, to give you a natural and neat looking set of teeth that you can show off.
The veneers are held firmly in place with a dental adhesive. Each veneer is shaded to match your tooth colour and shaped to match your other teeth, allowing your repair to blend in and become essentially invisible.

Previously, when patients come to see us, the dentist would need to take a mould of the mouth in order to properly assess your teeth and suitability for the treatment. Our practice has invested in the latest digital scanning technology - the Invisalign iTero - which provides:
The fitting of porcelain veneers is fairly straightforward.
Firstly, our team will sand the front of your tooth to make it rougher; this is a minimal amount of abrasion, which will be less than 1/8th of a millimetre. This step is painless but is vital to allow the cement to stick to the tooth. Once we are happy with the texture, we will apply dental cement to the enamel and will gently press on the veneers.
Then, once the cement has set to the enamel, the veneers will be affixed in place.
Veneers are easy to look after; you will simply need to attend regular check-ups with our team to ensure that they are firmly in place and you will also need to brush them twice daily.
As you can see, they require no real additional change to your oral hygiene regime and this makes them easy to fit around your daily life.
It is unlikely that your porcelain laminates will change colour with time.
When comparing porcelain to enamel, enamel is more porous and is thus more capable of staining when exposed to things like coffee, red wine or cigarette smoke. So, when you have porcelain veneers fitted, they can whiten your smile instantly and are a great way to ensure that your teeth stay whiter in the long term.
But, your surrounding natural teeth that are not laminated may stain and thus create a disparity in your smile's appearance. If this is a problem for you, talk to our team about whitening options.
No, it is unlikely that your veneers will pop off but there are circumstances that can make this more likely, such as untreated gum disease.
Of course, if you are worried that one of your veneers is loose or wobbling, come in and see our team and we will be able to reset it. Simple!
With correct care and hygiene, porcelain veneers can last over 20 years; just be sure to visit our team every 6 months and keep up your dental hygiene routine!
